For persons with developmental disabilities, victory isn’t defined by winning a marathon or climbing the corporate ladder of success. Success is measured when an individual masters everyday things like acquiring a job skill or preparing a meal.

This success will be celebrated in the first-ever “Celebrating Inspiring Heroes” event to be held October 22, 2000 at the Parisian Department store at Laurel Park Place in Livonia. Sponsors of the event are The Arc of Northwest Wayne County and the Community Opportunity Center, based in Livonia.

The ARC of Northwest Wayne County and Community Opportunity Center provide services to assist persons with developmental disabilities and their families in their pursuit of an independent lifestyle. The services include Special Olympics, a children’s play library and assistance in securing independent living arrangements. Combined, they serve persons with developmental disabilities in Livonia, Canton, Northville, Plymouth, Westland, Garden City and Redford. .

The evening will include entertainment and an array of fine foods prepared by Southeast Michigan’s finest restaurants. A silent auction and celebrity fashion show will be conducted and guests will be able to take advantage of special discounts offered by the Parisian. Tickets to attend the event are priced at $25.

The organizations are seeking donors of auction items and event sponsors. Many area celebrities and sports personalities will be joining in to raise funds for Special Olympics and to and other personal needs of people with developmental disabilities.
